STA. CRUZ - Napanatili ng lalawigan ng Laguna sa pamumuno ni Gob. Teresita "Ningning" S. Lazaro ang overall championship para sa elementarya at sekondarya sa katatapos lamang na Southern Tagalog CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Athletics Association o STCAA. Sinundan ang Laguna ng mga lalawigan ng Rizal at Cavite bilang 2nd at 3rd overall.
Bilang host province ngayong taong ito, ginanap ang STCAA nitong nakalipas na Pebrero 27, 2008 at nagtapos naman nitong Marso 3, 2008 kung
saan muling nagkampeon ang Laguna. Ang regional sports meet na nabanggit ay ginanap sa New San Luis RECS (Recreational, Educational, Cultural, and Sports) Village sa bayan ng Sta. Cruz, ang kabisera ng Laguna.
Matatandaang kinapos ang Laguna noong taong 2006 nang maging second placer lamang ito bagama’t itinanghal itong 7-time overall champion sa nakalipas na pitong taon kung saan dominanteng nitong pinangunahan ang taunang regional sports competition. Bukod sa CALABARZON provinces, lumahok din ang mga component cities sa Region IV-A tulad ng mga lungsod ng Calamba, Sta. Rosa at San Pablo sa Laguna; mga lungsod ng Batangas, Lipa, at Tanauan sa Batangas; at mga lungsod ng Cavite sa lalawigan ng Cavite, Antipolo sa Rizal, at Lucena sa Quezon.
Para kay Gob. Lazaro, ang tagumpay ng kanyang lalawigan ang bunga ng maganda at maayos na programa ay on her part attributed Laguna’s success to the Provincial Government’s sound sports program particularly the Sulong Kabataan at Sports program, a pillar under her flagship 7-Point Agenda. She also cited the vital role played by the DepEd-Laguna (Department of Education) headed by Division Superintendent Dr. Lilia Reyes who are instrumental in training the world-class Lagunense athletes.
"This feat is really sweet since we did it in our turf. We offer this achievement to our Lord God who continues to shower us with blessings. He has blessed and guided us and for that we are privileged to be in this position. We also offer this to our provincemates who have supported and inspired our athletes long before the start of the STCAA. With these, let’s all rejoice for this remarkable accomplishment!"
